Pace & Place - Release Notes of Version 0.4

These are the release notes of the fourth release of the GPS outdoor activity project Pace & Place. Version 0.4 is now available for download!

What´s New

  1. Changed license to GPL version 3 (except for the icons of the application).
  2. New supported GPS format: NMEA (import only).
  3. New supported GPS format: CVS (export only).
  4. Automatic detection of GPS file format during import.
  5. Time shift of tracks.
  6. Inversion of routes.
  7. Merge of routes / tracks.
  8. Convert routes into tracks, and vice versa.
  9. Renaming of waypoints, routes, tracks, and projects.
  10. Preferences provide selection of the database folder.
  11. Preferences provide language selection.
  12. Log files are stored in a subfolder of the user´s home directory.

Bug Fixes and Improvements

  1. Importer of the Trackstick file format ignored positions in special cases.
  2. Importer of the Trackstick file format provides seconds of the time of day now.
  3. Improved memory usage and speed of the processing of GPS data.

System Requirements

  1. Supported operating systems:
  2. Java Virtual Machine (JVM) 1.6 (Java 6) or later must be is installed on your computer. You can download the Java Virtual Machine from Oracle.

Installation Instructions

The Pace & Place installation is performed by an interactive installer.

Windows

  1. Download the Pace & Place Windows distribution.
  2. Double-click the downloaded executable.
  3. Follow the steps of the interactive installer.
  4. Launch Pace & Place by navigating to: Start -> Programs -> DigitalCure.org -> Pace & Place

Linux

  1. Download the Pace & Place Linux distribution.
  2. Right-click on the JAR file and select Open with... Java/JDK. If this option is not available, launch the installer from the command line: java -jar pace_and_place_X.X_buildXXX_linux32.jar
  3. Follow the steps of the interactive installer.
  4. Due to a bug, the executable file pace_and_place has to be set as executable:
    1. Open a system console.
    2. Change to the installation directory: cd <Pace & Place installation directory>
    3. Set start file as executable: chmod u+x pace_and_place
  5. Launch Pace & Place: ./pace_and_place
  6. You may optionally create a desktop shortcut (depending on your Linux distribution).

Uninstall Instructions

Windows

To remove or uninstall Pace & Place under Microsoft Windows...
  1. Launch Start -> Programs -> DigitalCure.org -> Uninstaller
  2. Check the box if you want to remove the directory completely.
  3. Select "Uninstall" in order to remove Pace & Place.

Linux

To remove or uninstall Pace & Place under Linux...
  1. Open a system console.
  2. Change to the uninstaller directory inside the installation directory: cd <Pace & Place installation directory>/Uninstaller
  3. Launch the uninstaller: java -jar uninstaller.jar
  4. Check the box if you want to remove the directory completely.
  5. Select "Uninstall" in order to remove Pace & Place.
